Im working on a script that lets the user edit an image, then hit a hotkey to save it as a NEW FILE with an incremented serial number. For example, if the user is working on the file SCENE1SHOT10001.TIF the script will save the file as SCENE1SHOT10002.TIF then as.0003 if used again, etc. Js Check If File Exists Code To GetIve written code to get the current dir and filename, file extension, etc, and then increment the file number, and now Im stuck on checking whether the next file number exists. Ive created a while loop to keep checking until a filenumber that doesnt exist is found, but Im stuck on the on contents of the loop that look for the file. Go easy on me, Im new to this.:o Ensure a document is open if ( documents.length 0 ) Change dialog settings var originalDialogMode app.displayDialogs; app.displayDialogs DialogModes.ERROR; try. Additionally, I cant think of too many APIsscenarios where a variable defined to a string would be able to simply invoke a method that tests if it exists. That being said, usually to test if a file exists through an API, you need to use existing methods that would only function if the file either existed or didnt and then just simply get that test case as your evidence of said existence, e.g. Im working on a script for Photoshop, so it has available the options for Photoshop. Does JS not have built in functionality for examining the local file system ETA: Reading through your code, would using a method to create a file using Photoshops commands overwrite a file that existed with that name Thats part of what Im not grasping, maybe. I figured I could write a file, and check if it works, but Im worried about overwritingdeletingcorrupting files if they are already exist. ![]()
